How the Ford PATS System Works

Ford has run its PATS immobilizer through several generations, starting with forty bit and eighty bit chip keys on older vehicles, moving through remote head keys in the middle years and arriving at Intelligent Access proximity fobs on recent models. Ford also allows a third key to be added on many model years while two working keys are still present, and that route is by far the cheapest one available to you if you plan ahead instead of waiting for a loss.
